The queen of the sea the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys . When the sea god Poseidon wanted her as his bride, she declined the honor and hid from him in the Ocean. A dolphin not only located her, but also brought her back to him, and he married her. The dolphin was awarded a place in heaven. Their son is the fish-man Triton.

Amphitrite is often together with her consort, riding in a chariot pulled by sea creatures surrounded by Tritons. She is respected and honoured by seafarers. Despite her unpredictability and wildness, she is remarkably constant and faithful to Poseidon. Unlike other godly spouses, she respects and loves her husband's other children

She has the pincers of lobsters attached to her temples
