Dante’s guide rebuffs Malacoda and his fiends in Inferno Canto 21 between
Thirteen demons known as
the Malebranche, “Evil Claws”, guard the fifth bolgia of the Malebolge.
Their leader is Malacoda (“evil tail”), while the others are Scarmiglione
(“ruffle-haired”), Barbariccia (“curly beard”), Alichino
(the harlequin), Calcabrina (“one who walks on
brine”), Cagnazzo (“bad dog”), Libicocco (scirocco), Draghignazzo (“dragon”, and “guffaw”), Ciriatto (“little pork”), Graffiacane
(“scratch dog”), Farfarello (“goblin”) and Rubicante
(“rabid”). One of the thirteen was thus

Charge (Ex): In addition to normal benefits of a charge, a malebranche can make
a single gore attack that deals triple damage.
Fear Aura (Su): A malebranche can radiate a 15 foot radius fear aura as a free action.
A creature in the area must succeed on a DC 18 Will save or be affected as though
by a fear spell (caster level 12th ). A creature that successfully saves cannot
be affected again by the same malebranche’s aura for 24 hours. Other devils
are im-mune to this effect. The save DC is Charisma based.
Regeneration (Ex): A malebranche takes normal damage from good aligned or silver weapons,
and from spells or effects with the good descriptors.
Spell-like Abilities: At will – greater teleport (self
plus 50 pounds only).
Caster level 17 th
Supreme Power Attack
(Ex): A malebranche gains a +2 damage bonus for every -1
penalty they take to their attack while using Power
Attack. (Or +4 if using a two handed weapon)
