A city in southern Greece a militarist state home one of the homes of the Spartes, whose territory included all Laconia and Messenia, and is the most powerful state in Peloponnesus.

Sparta a prominent city-state, situated on the banks of the Eurotas River in Laconia, in south-eastern Peloponnese. It emerged as a to become the dominant military land-power in Greece.

Sparta is unique in Greece for its social system and constitution, which is completely focused on military training and excellence. Its inhabitants known as Spartes (Spartan citizens, who enjoyed full rights), Mothakes (non-Spartes free men raised as Spartans), Perioikoi (freedmen), and Helots (state-owned serfs, enslaved non-Spartes local population). Spartes undergo the rigorous agoge training and education regimen, and Spartes phalanges were widely considered to be among the best in battle. Spartes women enjoyed considerably more rights and equality to men than elsewhere in the world.
